Return Russian Railways train tickets: purchased online, how much do you lose?

Russian Railways ticket

It happens that a planned trip has to be canceled almost at the very last moment. Then you have to find out if you return your train ticket, how much money you lose.

Of course, the losses cannot be compared with those that occur when returning a plane ticket, but the amount still turns out to be quite significant. It would be enough to travel by train (and more than one) to get to the dacha.

Reasons for returning a Russian Railways ticket

If you need to return an unused Russian Railways train ticket in 2019, we are guided by the Transportation Rules. For railway traffic, they were approved in 2013 by order of the Russian Ministry of Transport No. 473. What money can be earned for returning a ticket is determined in Chapter X of the Rules.

Among the considerable number of reasons that forced passengers to refuse to travel on a long-distance train, it is customary to distinguish between respectful and disrespectful ones. The passenger usually returns the travel document because:

  • canceled the trip;
  • missed the train departure;
  • made a decision on his own or was forced to get off the train;
  • the flight was canceled or rescheduled to another time that does not suit the passenger;
  • changes travel date;
  • he was not given the seat indicated on his travel document.

Sometimes a trip has to be canceled for a reason that no one would consider disrespectful. If an illness or accident occurs, the railway workers will allow you to return travel documents with a delay of up to five days. Of course, you will need to provide documented evidence to make a valid claim for a refund.

In the vast majority of cases, no one asks the passenger why he decided to return his travel documents. This is his personal business.

Where and how to return a Russian Railways ticket

When you need to return Russian Railways tickets, you need to take into account how they were purchased:

The completion of the surrender procedure and the amount of interest on the amount paid that will inevitably be lost are directly dependent on this circumstance.

With an electronic railway ticket that has been registered, it is possible to carry out the procedure on the website if the train departs no earlier than in an hour. For an overseas flight, one more condition is added - the presence of a six-hour reserve before the train departs from the station where the landing was planned.

If registration is not completed, you will have to hand over your electronic travel document at the station. Restrictions apply for overseas flights. Tickets must be returned at least six hours before the intended departure.

Travel documents are issued through Russian Railways ticket offices:

  • purchased at the box office;
  • electronic, printed at the station terminal or received from the cashier.

Return Policy

When you hastily had to return train tickets for a long-distance train, some monetary losses are inevitable. Specific circumstances determine which portion of the paid payment for returned train tickets will have to be lost.

We have to adhere to some general principles:

  • use the same documents with which the tickets were purchased;
  • try to have time to hand over your travel documents at least half a day before the departure of the train. Otherwise you will need to write a claim;
  • lose the amount of the withheld commission. After all, the railway provides an additional service that has to be paid for;
  • a railway pass purchased together with others for a group of passengers can be returned separately;
  • all four purchased seats will be returned to “Lux” and “Sapsan”;
  • We accept the return of a document required only for return travel.

Submission of a child railway pass will require the provision of a passport of one of the parents and the child’s birth certificate.

Sample power of attorney for delivery of railway tickets

Sometimes you have to return a Russian Railways ticket purchased by someone else. The railway workers provide for this possibility. However, you need to stock up on an identity card (preferably a passport) and a power of attorney.

Download a sample power of attorney for issuing train tickets (.doc)

And the amount of money that will be lost when returning someone else’s tickets depends on whether you planned to travel in Russia or in countries significantly distant from it/

A refund

How much of the cost of train tickets you have to lose when trying to return it is also determined by how you had to buy them:

  • at the register;
  • online - on the official portal of the railway department or on some other website.

One hundred percent of the costs incurred will be refunded in the cases provided for in clause 84 of the Rules of Transportation in force in railway transport. This applies to situations where the travel document is returned because:

  • the train was cancelled;
  • departure from the station where the passenger was supposed to board was delayed;
  • they didn’t give me a seat and the head of the passenger train (mechanic-foreman) drew up a report.

In other cases the following will be withheld:

  • fees associated with pre-sales and returns processing;
  • reservation and advertising fees.

How much will you lose by returning your ticket through the site?

When returning unused electronic travel documents purchased via the Internet, the amount of monetary losses is directly dependent on the time when the passenger train was supposed to set off. The transportation rules in force for railway transport for long-distance flights establish the following control lines before departure:

  • more than eight hours;
  • in the range from two to eight hours;
  • less than two hours.

You can hand over train tickets to a passenger who is late for departure within half a day after the train has left.

The amount of the fixed fee carried out by the site will be 30 rubles.

Passengers returning railway travel documents other than through the official Russian Railways website will have to pay an additional fee. It is set when train tickets worth 1,100 rubles or more are presented for return; 40 rubles will have to be paid if the total cost is up to 1,700 rubles, 90 if the amount is even higher.

In Russia, the Baltic states, Abkhazia

When electronic train tickets are issued within the vast country and neighboring countries, the commission is 192.70 rubles. This amount is charged for the return of electronic tickets at any time before the train departure.

If you fail to comply with the requirements to comply with the eight-hour period before the train departs, you will have to lose, according to clause 86 of the Transportation Rules, half of what the reserved seat cost. Accordingly, clause 87 does not allow the return of this cost at all if the return is carried out within a two-hour period preceding the departure of the train.

Far abroad

How much money a passenger who returns travel documents and traveling far beyond Russia will not receive back is determined by the timeliness of accessing the service of the official website of Russian Railways.

If the railway ticket is handed in before the start of the six-hour period before the vehicle departs from the station where the landing was planned, then the loss will be limited to 10 euros.

The amount will be recalculated at the current rate established by the Bank of Russia.

If you miss the optimal time, you will have to come to terms with the loss of half the cost of the seat.

They will not charge a fee when railway travel documents are returned for a child under five years of age.

How much do you lose by handing over your ticket to the box office?

When train tickets are returned through a cash register, the same amount of money is lost as when using the website.

For the Russian Federation, the Baltic countries and Abkhazia

It won’t be difficult to determine how much money you lose when returning a Russian Railways ticket. The decisive role will be played by the time until the train departs. If you are late for departure or return travel documents within a two-hour period before departure, you will be able to get back no more than half of the previously paid amount.

Losses will amount to 30-40% if you contact the ticket office two to eight hours before the departure of the train. If you apply in a timely manner, you will lose from a tenth to a quarter of the amount spent on purchasing railway passes.

Abroad

The money will be refunded if you return the ticket before the end of the six-hour period before boarding at the departure station. You have to take into account what commission Russian Railways will withhold - 10-25 percent of the total cost.

Therefore, you should hurry up, otherwise you won’t get the money at all. Unless evidence of a sudden illness is provided.

However, there is an exception. If you return a train ticket one hour before it sets off and six hours before it arrives at the station where the passenger will board, the money can be refunded. True, when drawing up a written complaint.

Refund for a Russian Railways ticket purchased by another person

It is possible to return train tickets that were purchased by some other passenger using his own documents.

When returning via the website, you will need to use the personal account of the person who purchased the tickets.

In addition to the order number, you will need to enter registration data (an email or mobile phone number is used for this purpose).

Further actions will be the same as when returning a train ticket purchased at the Russian Railways ticket office. To receive funds when someone else’s train tickets are returned, you must have them together with:

  • your own passport;
  • power of attorney certified by a notary.

The money will be refunded in cash, and the loss will be the same as when returning your own travel documents.

How long will it take for you to receive the money after returning your Russian Railways ticket?

The return method is determined by the method of purchase. When you return the ticket to the box office, the due amount will be paid in cash immediately.

Money usually arrives on the card within a month. This is extremely slow, but quite within the limits established by domestic legislation. Still, not 180 days, as we could have.

In case of possible return of railway travel documents, it is more profitable to use an electronic wallet. Having paid for an electronic railway ticket from the terminal, you will receive cash at the station ticket office and return it.

Current realities

Nowadays, you can return a ticket for a long-distance train without much hassle. The mechanism proposed by the Transportation Rules is simple and clear, and operates without failure.

More and more citizens are successfully using electronic services both to purchase a travel document and to return it. Although they have to incur minimal additional costs.

But in most cases it costs less than a trip to the train station.

Considering the conservatism of the railway department, it turns out that it is more profitable to purchase and return coupons for long-distance trains on the websites. Significantly less time and money are spent.

Conclusion

There are certain features when you need to return tickets for Sapsan or Lux. But they are not related to the withholding of commissions. You just need to get all four seats back.

There is much less hassle with railway travel documents than when returning an airline ticket. It is convenient that the general Transportation Rules apply. Therefore, there is no need to find out the specifics for each flight, as is the case with airplanes. And for the railway tickets that are handed in, the money will be returned. Even if not always immediately and completely.

How to return a train ticket purchased online or at the Russian Railways ticket office?

What to do if you have already bought train tickets, but you can’t go? Can they be returned? How exactly can I return a ticket at the box office or on the Russian Railways website? How much money is lost? We will consider all these questions below ( information on tariffs is relevant for 2019 ).

To begin with, I note that the article will discuss the return of tickets for long-distance trains within Russia. Tariffs and return rules for international trains and commuter trains will be different; we do not consider them here.

How to return a ticket on the Russian Railways website?

On the official Russian Railways website you can only return a ticket purchased there. If you made a purchase at the checkout, then, unfortunately, you won’t be able to cancel it online.

So, go to your personal account in the “My orders” tab, click “Request ticket status”, select the one we need and click the “Make a return” button. That's basically it!

The funds will be returned to the same card from which they were debited. The Russian Railways website says that this can take from 7 days to a month, but for me, for example, the money came back to my Sberbank card in about 5 days.

If electronic registration is not completed , then you can return the ticket right before the train departs from your boarding location.

  • Three-day Russian Railways sale!

If electronic registration has been completed , then you are allowed to return your train ticket no later than 1 hour before the train departs from the starting point of the route.

Electronic registration can also be canceled if you click the “Cancel electronic registration” button in the order. True, this must again be done earlier than an hour before the train departs. If you don't have time, you can return your ticket only at the box office.

You can return either one ticket from your order or all at once. But please note that you can only make a return online if a paper copy has not yet been issued. If you received the ticket in hand, you will have to return it at the railway ticket office.

How to return a ticket at the Russian Railways ticket office?

Here, too, everything is simple - you give your passport and control coupon to the cashier or give your electronic ticket number, and the cashier returns your money minus the mandatory fee. If you received a paper ticket at the box office or at a self-service terminal, then you must present it.

How much money will we lose when returning the ticket?

Not so much - 203 rubles. 50 kop.*

This fee will be charged in any case for each ticket returned (except for free tickets for children under 5 years old). However, you need to return your ticket no later than 8 hours before the train departs from your station, otherwise you could lose much more.

How much will I have to pay if I return my ticket later?

Let's figure it out. First, it’s worth clarifying: what we call a ticket is officially called a travel document.

So, the price of this travel document consists of:

  • the cost of the “ticket” (this is a fee for using the railway infrastructure);
  • the cost of a “reserved seat” (this is a fee for using the carriage).

For example, on my train ticket form (its full price is 2793.4 rubles) it was written that the cost of a “ticket” is 1747.5 rubles, and the cost of a “reserved seat” is 1045.9 rubles.

Thus, the ratio of the cost of a “ticket” to the cost of a “reserved seat” is approximately 62.5% to 37.5% . But I had tickets for the cheapest reserved seat carriage.

The higher the class of the carriage, the more the reserved seat will cost.

So, if you hand in a ticket:

  • earlier than 8 hours before departure from your station, the cost will be refunded in full, i.e. the cost of a “ticket” + a “reserved seat”, as well as a service fee (if available) and other payments;
  • in less than 8 hours - the entire cost of the “ticket” and 50% of the cost of the “reserved seat”, as well as service fees and other payments will be returned to you;
  • less than 2 hours - only the cost of the “ticket”, service fee and other payments are refunded; the price of the “reserved seat” is no longer refundable.

If you are late for the train , then within 12 hours after its departure you can return the price of the “ticket”, service fee and other payments; the “reserved seat” is not refundable.

If you are late for a valid reason (illness or accident), you can return your ticket within 5 days after the train departs, but you must present supporting documents. Again, only the price of the “ticket”, service fee and other payments will be returned to you, but the cost of the “reserved seat” will not be refunded.

In any of these cases, you will be charged a fee of RUB 203.50. , which I mentioned above.

  • Another nuance: the fee for reserving seats on long-distance trains is not refundable.
  • These seem to be all the basic rules for returning (just keep in mind that when traveling outside Russia, as well as for organized groups of passengers, the deadlines and fees will be different).
  • *Return rates are current for 2019.

Refund of Russian Railways tickets. How to return a train ticket purchased online?

It is better to buy a train ticket in advance - everyone knows this. However, a planned trip may unexpectedly be disrupted due to illness or other force majeure. Does this mean that you lose the money you paid, and the purchased ticket cannot be returned to the box office? No, it doesn't mean that. Let's look at the basic rules for returning Russian Railways tickets.

Is it possible to return a train ticket?

Many passengers who have purchased a ticket but cannot travel are interested in: “Can I return my train ticket?” The order of the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation clearly states that the travel document is allowed to be returned to the railway operator before the departure of the train. The amount of the refund depends on the date of return of the ticket. The fewer days left before the trip, the less amount you will be refunded.

The refund amount depends on the date of return of the ticket.

How to return an electronic train ticket purchased online?

Issuing travel documents online is a relatively new option, so not all passengers know how to return a purchased train ticket online. On our website you can not only book a trip and buy a train ticket, but also issue a refund. The money will be returned to the card with which you paid for the order.

Returns can be processed in two ways:

The method is available if you made an order, but did not register and log in on the site.

  1. Through the railway ticket office

If registration is completed, you will have to go to the train station at the departure point of the train and hand over your ticket to the railway ticket office.

If you purchase multiple tickets, you can return all or only part of them. After completing the procedure, a message will be sent to the linked mobile number with the amount, method and date of receipt of funds.

If you require confirmation of the return of tickets, the system will generate all the documents necessary for accounting. All you have to do is download the receipt from the website and print it out.

The maximum period for returning a train ticket after authorization is 1 hour before the departure of the train.

How to return Russian Railways tickets purchased at the box office?

You can return a paper ticket only through the ticket office at the station at the starting point of the route. You will need:

  • original ticket;
  • The identification document you used at the time of purchase (passport or birth certificate).

The money will be returned in the same way you paid for the purchase. If you paid in cash, the cashier will give the amount. If you paid by credit card, the funds will be transferred to it. In the latter case, you will have to wait several days for the money to arrive in your account.

The money paid for the ticket will be returned in the same way you paid for it.

Refund for a Russian Railways ticket purchased by another person

Another question that passengers often ask: “Is it possible to issue a refund of Russian Railways tickets for another person?” Yes, this is possible, but only if you have a notarized power of attorney.

If your relative or friend made a purchase through the site, log into his personal account.

In the appropriate window, enter the order number and registration data of the failed passenger (e-mail or mobile number specified when placing the order). After this, go to the train station at the starting point of the route.

For example, if the travel document is issued for the direction “Krasnoyarsk - Moscow”, go to the ticket office of the Krasnoyarsk station. You must have with you:

  • original ticket;
  • a notarized power of attorney in your name, signed by the buyer;
  • Your passport.

If you purchased a paper ticket, go immediately to the Russian Railways ticket office.

To return a ticket for another person, you will need a notarized power of attorney.

Return of train tickets: how much do you lose?

As we have already said, if the trip is cancelled, you can return your tickets to Russian Railways. How much you lose depends on the date of delivery. When you return your pass, you will receive less money than you originally paid. The amount is reduced in proportion to the time remaining before the train is sent. The following will be additionally subtracted from it:

  • mandatory Russian Railways tax - 192 rubles. 70 kopecks;
  • percentage for pre-sale of the document;
  • service fee - the amount depends on the category of the car.

If you issue a refund to a card, you will have to pay a commission from your bank or electronic payment system.

Thus, answering the question: “How many days in advance can you return train tickets without loss?”, we can say that in any case you will not be able to return the entire amount. The only way to lose less money is to exchange your ticket for a later date.

Russian Railways return of e-tickets: refund deadlines

Refunds for purchasing an e-ticket will be:

  • from 7 to 30 days - to a bank card;
  • from 10 to 60 days - to an electronic wallet.

If you paid for your trip in cash, you can receive the money when you return your ticket at the box office.

Rules for returning Russian Railways tickets after the departure of the train

If you did not manage to return your travel document before the train departed, you can still return it. Russian Railways rules establish a 12-hour period during which an unused ticket can be returned.

You can return a ticket for a departing train only through the railway ticket office. However, in addition to the mandatory fees, you will be charged a fine. If more than 12 hours have passed since the departure of the train, the train ticket cannot be returned.

You can return your travel document within 12 hours from the moment the train departs.

How much do you lose from returning a train ticket in 2020?

The procedure for returning a ticket is as popular as the procedure for purchasing it. For the convenience of passengers, it has become possible to buy and return tickets both online and at the ticket office. But how much does the passenger receive from the original ticket price upon return? How long does it take to return a ticket in order to receive the amount for which it was purchased? Why is money deducted when returning a ticket? Read in the article.

How to return a train ticket purchased through the website?

If you have not yet received a paper version of an electronic ticket purchased through the website (the official website of the Russian railway, tutu.ru, etc.) (if this is the case for you, read the following sections), then you need to understand whether you have passed electronic registration or not .

How do you know that you have completed electronic registration?

Electronic registration has been carried out if, at the time of issuing an electronic ticket through the website, you have ticked the box under your passport details. In this case, without receiving a paper version of the ticket at the station, you immediately go to the train, show your passport to the conductor and take your passenger seat.

If this is your case, then returning a ticket through the site is carried out according to the following rules:

  • Electronic tickets for flights within the country, as well as neighboring countries, are issued no less than 60 minutes before the train departs from the place from which it departs from the very beginning.
  • Electronic tickets for overseas flights must be returned no less than 60 minutes before the train departs from its original departure point and no later than six hours before departure from the station where you intend to board the train.

Your station does not have to be the starting station. Don't forget to time it correctly when the train leaves the platform at the starting station.

How to return a train ticket if you have not registered through the website?

If registration on the website (checking the box above the passport data) has not yet taken place, then the conditions for returning the ticket are as follows:

  • You can return electronic tickets for flights within the country, as well as neighboring countries, at any time before the train leaves your station.
  • Electronic tickets for foreign flights must be returned at least six hours before the train departs from the station where you wanted to board.

How much money will you lose by returning your ticket through the site?

To understand how much you will lose by returning an electronic ticket through the site, you need to understand what the cost of the ticket consists of.

So, the total cost of the ticket consists of the amount for payment for the movement of the train itself and the amount of your seat in the carriage. As a rule, a seat in a carriage accounts for up to thirty percent of the total ticket price.

For issuing an electronic ticket for flights within the country, as well as neighboring countries, a fee of 185 rubles is charged. In addition, the refund amount depends on how much time is left before the train departure.

  • If you decide to return your e-ticket more than eight hours before the train departs, the refund amount will be the full cost of the ticket.
  • If you want to return your ticket less than eight and more than two hours before the train’s departure, you will be refunded the full cost of the trip and only half the cost of the seat.
  • If the ticket is returned less than a couple of hours before the official departure and no later than half a day after the train departs, then Russian Railways employees will only refund you the cost of the seat.

If you decide to return an electronic ticket for a flight abroad, then the amount you will lose will be ten euros at the current exchange rate. In this case, you need to return the ticket:

  • No later than six hours before the train leaves the station where you decided to land. The refund amount will be equal to the full cost of the ticket.
  • Ticket delivery later than six hours - only the cost of the seat will be reimbursed without the fare. Sometimes the fare in this case may not be refunded.

There is no fee for returning an e-ticket only for a child seat (child under five years old).

How much will you lose by returning your ticket to the Russian Railways ticket office?

You can return your ticket to the Russian Railways ticket office:

  • If you bought an electronic ticket through the website and then printed it out at the terminal at the station or received it at the ticket office.
  • If you bought a ticket at the box office.

The refund amount also depends on the time of contacting the cashier. The later you do this, the lower the compensation amount will be.

Read also: Preparation of documents for traveling abroad: with one of the parents, without parents, different surnames

Just like in the case of an electronic ticket, a regular ticket can be returned:

  • More than eight hours before the train's departure. The refund amount is the full cost of the ticket.
  • Less than eight and more than two hours before the train departs. The refund amount is the cost of the trip and only half the cost of the seat.
  • Less than a couple of hours and no later than 12 hours after departure. The refund amount is the cost of the seat.

How long will it take for you to receive your money after returning your Russian Railways ticket?

  • If you paid for an e-ticket through the website using a bank card, the money will be refunded to the same card within one to four weeks.
  • If you paid for an electronic ticket using an electronic wallet (WebMoney, Yandex.money, Qiwi, etc.), through a terminal or at a mobile phone store, then you can get your money back in cash at the station ticket office.
  • If you bought and paid for a ticket at the ticket office at the Russian Railways station in cash, then when returning the ticket the money will also be returned in cash.

Returning a train ticket at the box office and online: how much money do you lose?

Our plans are not always destined to come true. Life prepares a lot of surprises, and sometimes the only way out of this situation is to return the train tickets purchased in advance. At the same time, many are naturally interested in how much you lose when surrendering. It is impossible to answer this question unequivocally, since the amount of compensation depends on the type of ticket, the return period and the terms of purchase.

Return Policy

You can pay for a train ticket at the station ticket office or online, and the procedure for returning them is determined by the method of purchase:

  • A ticket purchased at the box office can only be returned in the same way;
  • If you made a purchase online, you can return it to the ticket office with your passport or on the Russian Railways website.

The price of a travel certificate is determined based on two main factors:

  • Cost of a seat (reserved seat);
  • Price of railway services.

These two amounts differ depending on the type of composition (regular or branded) and the set of additional services. When returning, Russian Railways deducts a fee of the established amount from the ticket price:

  • RUB 192.70 from Russian intercity trains;
  • 10 euros from trains going to other countries.

The category of mandatory deductions also includes the fee for conducting the return procedure. The principal amount is determined by the time remaining from the moment of deposit to the start of the voyage.

Domestic transportation

  • 75-90% of the full price will be refunded if you manage to return your ticket at least 8 hours before the departure of the train;
  • 50% is returned upon delivery between 2 and 8 hours before the train starts moving;
  • 2 hours before the train departs and up to 12 hours after its departure, the passenger will only receive a refund of the fare.

Trains traveling to the CIS countries and the Baltic states

  • The day before departure, the passenger will receive the full amount for travel and a reserved seat;
  • From 6 to 24 hours before departure you can claim half the price and the entire fare;
  • From 1 to 6 hours before departure you will only receive a refund of the fare price.

International flights

  • 100% refundable any time up to 6 hours before departure;
  • If there are less than 6 hours left before the departure of the train, a ticket to non-CIS countries cannot be refunded (except for the provision of an official sick leave certificate).

Regardless of the time of return, the passenger is reimbursed for the entire cost of services, since he, in fact, did not receive them. This group includes payment for bed linen.

The possibility of returning at least some part of the amount paid is limited to 12 hours after the departure of the train.

If you missed a trip for a serious reason (serious illness, surgery, injury), and have documentary evidence in hand, you can count on special conditions.

They can be returned maximum on the 5th day after the departure of the train traveling across Russia. If we are talking about a trip to the CIS or the Baltics, it can be reimbursed up to 10 days.

A valid reason extends the possible delivery time for trains to foreign countries to 1 month from the date of the flight.

Return procedure

The procedure depends on the method of purchasing the railway travel document.

Handing over an electronic railway ticket

Train seats paid for online can be returned in the same way - through the official Russian Railways portal. The exception is a boarding pass printed through the terminal or station ticket office.

Cancellation of electronic registration is possible within a certain time:

  • One hour for Russian trains operating within the country;
  • 6 hours in advance for international flights.

Returning a ticket purchased online is very simple:

  • Log into your account on the Russian Railways website by entering your login and password in the appropriate form (if you have forgotten them, you can quickly restore the data using your mailbox);
  • You need to find the “My Orders” section - there will be a list of paid tickets;
  • Select the ticket you want to return, and then click on the “Request Status” button;
  • Next, click on the “Make a return” button.

You will see a notification that you will be charged a mandatory fee in the amount of 192 rubles 70 kopecks. Then a waiver of electronic registration will be issued and a page will open asking you to print a special coupon. Do this so that you have a confirmation document in hand in case the funds do not reach your account within the allotted time.

How to return a train ticket purchased at the box office

You can only get part of the funds back through the cash desk, by going to the window at the station with your passport and a paper reserved seat. If the selected train has not yet left, you can go to the nearest branch, but when returning tickets for a departing train, you will have to go to the ticket office at the point of departure.

  • Present the document to the cashier (for you this will be a passport, and if you are returning a child’s ticket, you will need the original birth certificate);
  • The station employee will issue an application form, which will need to be completed on site;
  • The completed application along with the ticket must be given to the cashier, who will then issue the compensation due to you.

If you paid for your purchase using a card, the refund will be made within a few days (maximum period is one month).

Answers to common questions

How many days in advance can you return train tickets?

The maximum period is limited only by the date of purchase, the minimum – 12 hours after train departure. If there is a good reason for skipping (illness, injury, death) with documentary evidence, the ticket can be returned even a few days after the train departs (5 days for domestic trains, 10 days for flights to the CIS and the Baltic states, a month for international trains).

Is it possible to return a train ticket for another person?

Yes. To return a reserved seat purchased at the checkout, you will need to present a power of attorney, which contains:

  • Full name of the passenger and his passport details, including his registration address;
  • Flight information;
  • Attorney's right to return;
  • Date of registration and expiration date of the document.

If the procedure is carried out by a buyer who paid for electronic tickets during the process of purchasing them on the site, he does this on behalf of all passengers, who are considered by default to be informed about the fact of delivery.

Moreover, you can return all the train tickets of the group, or just one or two of them, if we are talking about a reserved seat. You can only rent out seats in the Sapsan compartment-meeting room all at once, and not separately. The same rule applies to group fares for the Finland – Russia train.

When will I get my money back

When paying in cash at the checkout, you can also receive the refund amount in paper money and coins immediately after filling out the application.

Cashless payment by card involves returning funds in the same way to the same account, but not immediately, but within a few days. The maximum waiting period is 1 month. If the ticket was returned for a train that has already departed, the period can extend up to 60 days.

When paying from an electronic wallet online, the refund is made there within 10-60 days from the date of filing the application.

If the purchase was paid for with a gift certificate, the failed passenger will receive a new certificate for the amount remaining after mandatory fees and commissions have been deducted.

What to do with a ticket that contains errors

The wrong letter in the first or last name, or the wrong number in the passport data are not decisive, and therefore are not grounds for replacing the travel card. A more important mistake will be another category of ticket that affects its cost.

If several errors are detected, the ticket should be replaced, otherwise there may be problems during boarding. Go to the station ticket office, taking your passport with you. Issuing a new reserved seat will cost 223 rubles 70 kopecks.

The conductor can also correct errors in the ticket - for this they use the terminal of the headquarters car. The service is not free - the correction will cost 200 rubles.

Finally, we note that having a valid reason is not the main condition for obtaining the possibility of returning a travel document. Russian Railways employees are not interested in why you cannot board the carriage at the designated time - they act on the basis of the rules and regulations described above.

The only situation in which documentary evidence will help is when the procedure is completed after the train has departed. A doctor's certificate, sick leave or death certificate of a family member or the passenger himself will allow you to get part of the money back even after 12 hours after the train departs.

Refund of electronic railway (train) tickets; how to return a train ticket online, return money via the Internet

The conditions for the return of train tickets and money for them are regulated by the rules for the return of travel documents of JSC Russian Railways from Order of the Ministry of Transport No. 473.

General principles

  1. The money is returned in the same way you paid, and the amount depends on how much time is left before the train departs.
  2. If you receive cash for a refund (at the ticket office at the station, in our office, etc.), then only in the Russian Federation.

For trains that go outside Russia, slightly different rules apply.

How to return an e-ticket

If you bought a ticket on Poezd.ru and did not issue it on Russian Railways form, everything is simple: you can return the ticket from your personal account on the website or from the order management page (the link is in the purchase notification letter).

  • If you have completed electronic registration, a refund is possible no later than an hour before the train departs from the initial station of its route (for example, for the Moscow - Kislovodsk train - an hour before departure from Moscow). If the ER is not passed, you can return the unused ticket and issue a refund at any time before the train departs.
  • If you have multiple tickets in your order, you can return all or some of them.
  • If you need strict reporting forms for accounting, after returning the ticket, you can download a receipt of miscellaneous fees (CRF) from the website.

Soon after returning the ticket, you will receive an SMS and e-mail with detailed information about the refund for tickets (amount, term, method of payment) and the necessary links.

Another option is to return it at the Russian Railways ticket office. Regardless of where you bought your ticket, you can return it at the ticket office at any Russian train station. In this case, the ticket can be returned by the person in whose name it was issued; You must have with you the document for which you purchased the ticket.

If you have an electronic ticket for a carriage where you must pay for the entire compartment (classes 1A, 1M, 1I, 1B, 1P, 1E), then you can only return all tickets from the order at the same time.

How to return a paper ticket

A paper train ticket can only be returned at the ticket office at any station. You will need a passport or other document for which you purchased the ticket.

  1. If you paid for the ticket with a bank card, the money will be returned to it.
  2. If through terminals and communication shops, you will receive money in cash at the ticket office of Russian Railways OJSC immediately upon return.
  3. If you paid for the ticket using one of the electronic payment systems (WebMoney, Yandex.Money), the money will be returned to the wallet from which the payment was made.

How to return a ticket for another person

If the ticket was purchased on Poezd.ru and you know the order number and what e-mail or phone number it was issued to, you can return the ticket through the order management page.

If you have a paper ticket in your hands, you must return it at the ticket office. You need to have with you:

  1. The ticket itself.
  2. A power of attorney certified by a notary to return the ticket and receive money.
  3. Passport (yours, that is, the person who is handing over the ticket). The original document is required.
