When a child enters first grade, his world changes completely. He has to get used to a new daily routine, school responsibilities, and meeting classmates. Not all children are able to adapt to new requirements at once.
To ensure that adaptation is painless, certain rules for organizing the educational process have been introduced, aimed exclusively at first-graders. They determine the duration of a lesson in the first grade, on what basis the schedule is drawn up, and much more.
Parents of first-graders need to know all these features in order to properly organize the child’s routine during this important period for him.
Post-pupil school is a big change in the life of every child and his family.

How long is a lesson in first grade?
The first important point that parents of first-graders pay attention to is the difference in the duration of lessons. Just a few years ago, all schoolchildren sat in each lesson for at least 45 minutes. This applied to both first-graders and high school students. All classes at school studied at the same rhythm, the breaks were the same for everyone. This was a generally accepted norm established by many years of history.
Modern first-graders are children 6-7 years old. Their physiology is not yet prepared for serious workload. New living conditions in the school community are not only psychological, but also physical stress for six-year-olds.
For them, the first year of study and especially the first months are the most difficult. Difficulties in adaptation are evidenced by studies of the physical condition of children.
Pediatricians observe slow growth and weight loss in many first-graders, and doctors also noted complaints of neurotic disorders.

Based on this, new standards for the duration of lessons for first-graders were introduced. All provisions and recommendations for organizing the adaptation period for 1st grade students are set out in SanPiN (sanitary rules and regulations) for secondary schools. These changes are aimed at ensuring that children enter school life gradually.
Regulatory requirements for lesson duration
The new SanPiN requirements for primary schools take into account the age characteristics of first-graders. Therefore, a restriction on the maximum duration of lessons (45 minutes) has been introduced for them. So, how long does a lesson last in first grade:
- in the first half of the year – 35 minutes;
- in the second half of the year – 40 minutes.
The introduced regulations contribute to a smoother transition to a step-by-step training regime for first-grade students.
Rules for organizing the educational process in first grade
According to the new requirements of SanPiN, the organization of the educational process in 1st grade has undergone certain adjustments.
There are some bonuses for first-graders:
- Training is carried out only on the first shift, 5 days a week.
- There is no scoring of academic performance throughout the academic year. The same applies to checking completed homework.
- It is recommended to assign homework to a minimum amount. There are different opinions regarding homework assignments for children aged 6-7 years. Some teachers believe that it is necessary to limit the workload on six-year-olds as much as possible. And other teachers are confident that a sufficient amount of homework will gradually accustom the student to independence and the school load.
- Double lessons are not introduced in primary schools.
- During the school day, the schedule includes a mandatory dynamic break of at least 40 minutes (not all schools set such a duration of dynamic unloading).
- For first-graders, the maximum study load is 21 hours per week. This requirement is decisive when drawing up a schedule.
- In the middle of the third quarter, additional holidays are introduced (7 days).
Don’t worry too much and transfer these feelings onto your child - follow the basic tips and everything will work out
Due to the physiological characteristics of this age group of students, additional regulatory requirements and privileges have been introduced:
- The weight of textbooks and writing materials necessary for studying that a student carries every day cannot exceed 1.5 kg.
- Classrooms for study cannot be located above the 2nd floor.
- If children attend an extended day group, then it is necessary to introduce a daily routine - daytime sleep (at least 1 hour), 3 meals a day, walks.
Creating a lesson schedule for first-graders
Parents are interested in both the duration of the lesson in 1st grade and the principle on which the schedule is drawn up. The following requirements are taken as a basis:
- The maximum number of lessons per day for first grade students is 4. Once a week, this norm can be increased by 1 lesson, but only for physical education.
- In the first 2 months of training (September, October), no more than 3 lessons of 35 minutes each day. In subsequent months, the number of classes increases - 4 lessons of 35 minutes each (in November, December), and from January to May the number of classes remains the same, but the duration increases - 40 minutes.
- Each lesson is accompanied by a 2-minute physical warm-up, which is carried out in the middle of the lesson.
Today, especially great attention is paid to the regularity of dynamic warm-up for schoolchildren.
To make it easier for the student to learn the material, the schedule is drawn up taking into account the complexity of the subjects:
- Subjects that require mental effort and a lot of attention are tried to take the place of lessons 1 and 2. This applies to teaching mathematics and languages.
- In the third lesson, after a dynamic pause, subjects on natural history, labor, drawing, and music are introduced.
- At the end of the school day, it is recommended to conduct lessons related to movement (physical education, rhythm). There should be at least three of them during the week.
- In the schedule, subjects alternate in difficulty both throughout the day and throughout the week.
- In order to strengthen the motor component in classes and ease the resulting tension, the last lessons are conducted in the form of games, theatrical skits, and excursions.
- Thursday becomes the day of “unloading”. No complex subjects are planned on this day; only excursions, physical education and art classes are conducted.
With this approach, children do not get so tired at first, and it is easier for them to adapt to new conditions.
First class bell schedule
The schedule of school bells also depends on the length of lessons in first grade. This information is especially important for parents who want to control the discipline and daily routine of their child. It is better to make a phone call during recess than to disturb the student during the educational process.

For the first half of the year
Schools are recommended to set the following schedule for the first half of the year:
Lesson Time Change Assignment 1 8.00 - 8.35 20 minutes visit to the dining room 2 8.55 - 9.30 20 minutes dynamic break 3 10.10 - 10.45 10 minutes regular break 4 10.55 - 11.30 10 minutes regular break 5 11.45 - 12.15
For painless adaptation, certain rules for organizing the educational process have been introduced
For the second half of the year
In the second half of the year, the school bell schedule is slightly different from the first half of the year:
Lesson Time Change Purpose 1 8.00 - 8.45 20 minutes break 2 9.05 - 9.50 10 minutes dynamic break 3 10.30 - 11.15 10 minutes regular break 4 11.25 - 12.10 10 minutes regular break 5 12.20 - 13.05

New requirements for the class schedule that your head teacher may have missed
Before approving the schedule in September, check whether the head teacher has taken into account the new requirements. You need to make sure that the schedule includes all compulsory subjects, additional division into groups and extracurricular activities. The article contains sample schedules, an order to approve it, and ready-made arguments if teachers and parents come to you to argue about the schedule.
If a school makes a schedule with errors, it faces fines. For violating the requirements of SanPiN, the director will have to pay 7 thousand rubles, and the school - 70 thousand rubles. (Article 6.7 of the Administrative Code). The founder will also have the right to bring the director to disciplinary liability and issue him a reprimand or reprimand (Article 192 of the Labor Code).
To prevent this, it is necessary to check that new mandatory subjects are added to the schedule and do not violate SanPiN. Fragments of the schedule will help you with this. You also need to make sure that classes are divided into groups and evaluate whether the schedule is convenient for teachers and parents.
And if they are unhappy, look at the ready-made arguments that the director can use.
Changes that need to be reflected in the schedule
Do not approve the schedule until you are sure that it contains new compulsory subjects - native language and native literature, a second foreign language, and the classes are divided into groups to study them. Find out whether they have planned extracurricular activities. After all, it can be included in the main schedule only if you have switched to the Federal State Educational Standard of General Education.
Check to see if there are any new compulsory subjects on the schedule. In elementary school, among the lessons you need to find your native language and literary reading in your native language.
At the basic school level - native language, native literature, second foreign language. For secondary school, you can choose one subject from the subject area - native language or native literature and reflect them in the schedule.
It is not necessary to introduce a second foreign language for high school students.
The Institute of New Technologies in Education keeps up with the times and offers teachers training in a modern and convenient form at any convenient time. View the list of programs here. September is the autumn time when everyone starts studying!
Division into groups
When you look at the schedule, pay attention to whether classes or parallels are divided into groups. This is necessary if the school teaches several native or second foreign languages. The school can also distribute students into groups to study technology and do physical education.
The school is not required to divide the class into groups. But if she has the necessary conditions and means of training for this, then this needs to be done in order to improve the quality of education (clause 10.1 of SanPiN 2.4.2.2821–10).
Extracurricular activities
Find out whether timetable officials have taken advantage of the opportunity to alternate lessons with extracurricular activities. The school has the right to do this if it has switched to the Federal State Educational Standard for general education. At the same time, there is no need to take breaks of 45 minutes, because extracurricular activities are organized in forms that differ from the classroom form.
If the school still operates according to the State Educational Standards FC, then it is impossible to include extracurricular activities in the general schedule. It is necessary to draw up a separate schedule of lessons and extracurricular activities. Then, between the start of extracurricular activities and the last lesson, it is better to take a break of at least 45 minutes (clause 10.6 of SanPiN 2.4.2.2821–10).
Please note that the 2019/20 academic year is the last one when it is possible to teach FC GOS. The transition of all schools to the Federal State Educational Standard of General Education will be completed in the 2020/21 academic year (Government Order No. 1507-r dated 09/07/2010). Therefore, schools now need to reorganize their work with the schedule in accordance with the requirements of the Federal State Educational Standard.
The Siberian regional school (college) of Anna Muratova continues to enroll in additional college groups in 18 specialties for everyone on the basis of 9th and 11th grades! Hurry up to apply for comfortable training at a favorable price! There are fewer and fewer places left.
SanPiN requirements that the schedule must comply with
To make sure that your schedule takes into account all the requirements of SanPiN 2.4.2.2821–10, pay attention to when classes start and what kind of break is provided between shifts. You also need to clarify whether academic subjects are evenly distributed throughout the week.
Start of classes
Training sessions should begin no earlier than eight o’clock (clause 10.4). For an example of a call schedule that complies with SanPiN, see the table.
Call schedule
Shifts
Classes cannot be conducted in three shifts. There must be a break of at least 30 minutes between the first and second (clause 10.13). Lessons of 1st, 5th, final 9th and 11th grades and classes of compensatory education must be conducted in the first shift.
On a note
SanPiN recommends including at least three hours of physical education per week in your schedule. But this can be done both during class and extracurricular hours. Physical education lessons cannot be replaced with other subjects (clause 10.20 of SanPiN 2.4.2.2821–10)
Read also: Exemption from paying alimony: statement of claim, court, practice
Load
SanPiN obliges the study load to be distributed evenly during the school week (clause 10.6). To do this, it is necessary to take into account the daily and weekly mental performance of students and the scale of difficulty of academic subjects. See the difficulty scales of academic subjects for grades 1-4, 5-9 and 10, 11 >>.
On Tuesday and Wednesday, when the level of mental performance of students is maximum, the schedule should include subjects with the highest score on the difficulty scale. For example, chemistry, geometry, algebra, physics in 7th grade.
Another option is to put items with average and lowest scores in the middle of the week, but in larger quantities than on the other days of the week.
Lighter days
Friday or Thursday should be light days (clause 10.11). They need to plan a minimum of subjects with high scores on the difficulty scale. For example, for these days, fifth-graders can be taught life safety, ecology, music, and physical education.
SanPiN prohibits placing items that require a lot of time for home preparation for one day. For example, Russian language, mathematics, history.
Physical training
Do not allow lessons with written assignments and tests to be included in the schedule after physical education. Physical education should be one of the last lessons.
Assessing the convenience of the schedule for teachers, students and their parents
After the schedule has been checked for errors, the Deputy Director for Educational Management will analyze how convenient it is for each teacher. If he identifies problems that cannot be solved without violating SanPiN, you can discuss them with teachers. This will allow you to prevent conflict situations and decide what you will take into account and change in the next six months.
The draft schedule can also be reviewed together with active parents. This way you will give them the opportunity to express their wishes on how to distribute lessons, clubs, sections. To do this, parents can be invited to a meeting before the start of the school year or conducted a survey or questionnaire.
If any of the parents' wishes cannot be accommodated, you can prepare arguments to convince them why the schedule should be left unchanged.
Watch the chat of experts who will tell you what arguments to use if teachers or parents come to argue with you over the schedule.
! On a note !
How to set staggered mode in first grade timetable
In order for first-graders to gradually get used to school, instruct them to establish a graded schedule of classes. This will allow them to quickly adapt to the school environment. The main principle of the stepwise regime is to consistently increase the duration of lessons and their number by month.
- To organize a step mode, carry out:
- – in September, October – 3 lessons per day, 35 minutes each;
- – November, December – 4 lessons per day, 35 minutes each;
- – January – May – 4 lessons per day, 40 minutes each.
Publication
Instruct the responsible employee to post the schedule not only at the school stand. Let him post it on the website, then class teachers will be able to send parents links to its electronic version

What are the requirements for the volume of school workload and schedule according to SanPiN?
In accordance with Article 30 of the Federal Law “On Education in the Russian Federation”, the regime of students’ studies is determined by local regulations (as a rule, these are the charter and internal rules of the school, as well as the curriculum).
The opportunity to familiarize yourself with these documents must be provided by the educational organization for students and their parents (legal representatives) (Article 28 of this law).
Compliance with the school day regime is mandatory both for the educational organization and for parents (Articles 41 and 44 of this law).
However, when determining the schedule of the school day for students, the educational organization must ensure compliance with the following rules established by SanPiN 2.4.2.2821-10 “Sanitary and epidemiological requirements for the conditions and organization of training in educational institutions” (Resolution of the Chief State Sanitary Doctor of the Russian Federation dated December 29, 2010 No. 189):
Start and end times of classes (clause 10.4.)
Classes should begin no earlier than 8 o'clock. Conducting zero lessons is not allowed.
- In institutions with in-depth study of individual subjects, lyceums and gymnasiums, training is carried out only in the first shift.
- In institutions operating in two shifts, training of 1st, 5th, final 9th and 11th grades and compensatory education classes should be organized in the first shift.
- Training in 3 shifts in general education organizations is not allowed.
Study load (clause 10.6. and 10.11)
The total volume of workload during the day should not exceed:
- for 1st grade students - 4 lessons and once a week 5 lessons at the expense of a physical education lesson;
- for students in grades 2 - 4 - 5 lessons and once a week 6 lessons at the expense of a physical education lesson;
- for students in grades 5 - 7 - no more than 7 lessons;
- for students in grades 8 - 11 - no more than 8 lessons.
- To prevent overwork and maintain an optimal level of performance during the week, students should have a light school day on Thursday or Friday.
- The number of hours allocated for students to master the curriculum of a general education institution, consisting of a compulsory part and a part formed by participants in the educational process, should not in total exceed the value of the weekly educational load.
- The amount of weekly educational load (number of training sessions), implemented through classroom and extracurricular activities, is determined in accordance with the table
Classes Maximum permissible weekly load in academic hours for a 6-day week, no more than for a 5-day week, no more than 1 - 21 2 - 4 26 23 5 32 29 6 33 30 7 35 32 8 - 9 36 33 10 - 11 37 34
The organization of specialized education in grades 10-11 should not lead to an increase in the educational load. The choice of a training profile should be preceded by career guidance work.
The educational weekly load is evenly distributed throughout the school week, with the volume of the maximum permissible load during the day being:
- for 1st grade students - should not exceed 4 lessons and 1 day per week - no more than 5 lessons, at the expense of a physical education lesson;
- for students in grades 2 - 4 - no more than 5 lessons and once a week 6 lessons due to a physical education lesson with a 6-day school week;
- for students in grades 5 - 6 - no more than 6 lessons;
- for students in grades 7 - 11 - no more than 7 lessons.
Lesson schedule (clause 10.6. and 10.8.)
The lesson schedule is compiled separately for compulsory and elective classes. Optional classes should be scheduled on days with the fewest required classes. It is recommended to take a break of at least 45 minutes between the start of extracurricular activities and the last lesson.
When drawing up a lesson schedule, you should alternate subjects of varying complexity throughout the day and week: for students of primary general education, basic subjects (mathematics, Russian and foreign languages, natural history, computer science) should be alternated with lessons in music, fine arts, labor, physical education; For students of basic general and secondary general education, natural and mathematical subjects should be alternated with humanitarian subjects.
For 1st grade students, the most difficult subjects should be taught in 2nd lesson; 2 - 4 classes - 2 - 3 lessons; for students in grades 5 - 11 - in lessons 2 - 4.
In primary grades, double lessons are not conducted. It is allowed to conduct double physical education lessons (skiing lessons, swimming lessons).
There should not be more than one test during the school day. Tests are recommended to be carried out in 2 - 4 lessons.
Duration of the lesson (clause 10.9.)
The duration of a lesson (academic hour) in all classes should not exceed 45 minutes, with the exception of grade 1, in which the duration is regulated by clause 10.
10 real sanitary rules, and a compensatory class, the duration of the lesson in which should not exceed 40 minutes.
The density of students' educational work in lessons in core subjects should be 60 - 80%.
Features of teaching first graders (clause 10.10.)
Training in 1st grade is carried out in compliance with the following additional requirements:
- training sessions are conducted over a 5-day school week and only during the first shift;
- use of a “stepped” teaching mode in the first half of the year (in September, October - 3 lessons per day of 35 minutes each, in November-December - 4 lessons per day of 35 minutes each; January - May - 4 lessons per day according to 40 minutes each).
- It is recommended to organize a dynamic break lasting at least 40 minutes in the middle of the school day;
- training is carried out without scoring students’ classes and homework;
- additional week-long holidays in the middle of the third quarter in the traditional mode of education. It is possible to organize additional holidays regardless of quarters (trimesters).
- afternoon snacks and walks for all students;
- afternoon snacks, walks and naps for first year children.
Changes (clauses 10.12. and 10.13.)
The duration of breaks between lessons is at least 10 minutes, long breaks (after 2 or 3 lessons) - 20 - 30 minutes. Instead of one big break, after 2 and 3 lessons it is allowed to have two breaks of 20 minutes each.
It is recommended to organize recess outdoors. For this purpose, when conducting a daily dynamic break, it is recommended to increase the duration of the long break to 45 minutes, of which at least 30 minutes are allocated for organizing motor-active activities of students on the institution’s sports ground, in the gym or in recreation.
The break between shifts should be at least 30 minutes for wet cleaning of the premises and their ventilation; in case of an unfavorable epidemiological situation for disinfection treatment, the break is increased to 60 minutes.
The use of innovative educational programs and technologies, class schedules, and training modes in the educational process is possible in the absence of their adverse impact on the functional state and health of students.

Lesson schedule for 1st grade according to Federal State Educational Standards and SanPin | Occupational health and safety at school
My son entered first grade this year. Tell me, what are the requirements for the lesson schedule in 1st grade according to the Federal State Educational Standard and SanPin for the effective organization of the learning process for first-graders? How many classes (lessons) should there be per day in the first grade according to the schedule? How many minutes should a lesson last in first grade? What is a dynamic pause between lessons in the 1st grade of school?
Answer:
For first-graders, the lesson schedule is based on 4 lessons per day and once a week 5 lessons at the expense of a physical education lesson. According to SanPin, in the weekly schedule in 1st grade there must be at least 3 physical education classes.
According to SanPin, in the 1st grade, school students study five days a week; it is not allowed to draw up a schedule with lessons on Saturdays. Also, children should be trained only in the first shift.
According to SanPin, it is recommended to alternate complex subjects with simpler ones. For example, music or fine arts classes with mathematics and literary reading. At the same time, the most difficult subjects should be included in the schedule for the second lesson.
It is also recommended to teach complex subjects in the 1st grade of school on Tuesday and Wednesday, when first-graders are not yet very overworked.
Sanitary and epidemiological rules (SanPiN 2.4.2.2821-10) recommend teaching children in 1st grade in September and October - 3 lessons a day for 35 minutes, in November-December - 4 lessons a day for 34 minutes each, from January to May - 4 lessons of 40 minutes each.

What is the maximum number of lessons allowed for students of different grades?
Overload of schoolchildren is one of the problems of modern schools. To ensure that children do not become overtired during the educational process and maintain their physical and mental health, hygiene requirements limited the number of permissible lessons per day.
The document that regulates the maximum number of lessons per day/week is Resolution of the Chief State Sanitary Doctor of the Russian Federation dated December 29, 2010 N 189 “On approval of SanPiN 2.4.2.
2821–10 “Sanitary and epidemiological requirements for the conditions and organization of training in educational institutions” (hereinafter referred to as SanPiN).
Lessons are an integral part of the educational process. A modern school today can offer many activities in the afternoon. We will find out below how many lessons should be included in the daily routine, and which lessons a child can attend at will.
- SanPiN distributes the educational load between classroom and general.
- The maximum permissible weekly classroom load during the day will be:
- — for 1st grade students — no more than 4 lessons;
- - for students in grades 2-4 - no more than 5 lessons;
- - for students in grades 5-6 - no more than 6 lessons;
- - for students in grades 7-11 - no more than 7 lessons.
- The total volume of workload during the day should not exceed:
- - for 1st grade students - 4 lessons and once a week 5 lessons at the expense of a physical education lesson;
- - for students in grades 2-4 - 5 lessons and once a week 6 lessons at the expense of a physical education lesson;
- - for students in grades 5-7 - no more than 7 lessons;
- - for students in grades 8-11 - no more than 8 lessons.
- Exceeding the above standards is unacceptable. Hygienic requirements also establish requirements for the maximum total volume of students’ weekly educational load:
Classes Maximum permissible weekly classroom load (in academic hours) For a 6-day week, no more For a 5-day week, no more than 1 — 21 2-4 26 23 5 32 29 6 33 30 7 35 32 8-9 36 33 10-11 37 34
In addition to compulsory lessons, there are elective classes that relate to extracurricular activities, and paid educational services. Federal Law dated December 29.
2012 No. 273-FZ “On Education in the Russian Federation” (hereinafter referred to as the Law) defines elective classes as optional.
There are elective subjects that are mandatory for a student to select from the list offered by the school after receiving basic general education (in grades 10 and 11) (Article 34 of the Law).
A child can attend elective classes at his own request and at the request of his parents. Extracurricular activities are organized on a voluntary basis in accordance with the choice of participants in educational relations (SanPiN). Students have the right to choose, in addition to compulsory academic subjects, any other courses and disciplines taught at school (Article 34 of the Law).
The lesson schedule is compiled separately for compulsory and elective classes. Optional classes should be scheduled on days with the fewest required classes. It is recommended to take a break of at least 45 minutes between the start of extracurricular activities and the last lesson.
The hours allocated for extracurricular activities are used for socially useful practices, research activities, educational projects, excursions, hikes, competitions, visits to theaters, museums and other events.
Maximum permissible weekly load of extracurricular activities (in academic hours) Regardless of the length of the school week from grades 1–11, no more than 10 hours. Hours of extracurricular activities can be implemented both during the school week and during the holidays, on weekends and non-working holidays.
It is worth noting that there is a Letter from the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation dated December 14, 2015 No. 09-3564 “On extracurricular activities and the implementation of additional general education programs.”
The letter determines that the basic general education program can be implemented both through classroom and extracurricular activities. This Letter of Recommendation designates extracurricular activities as an integral part of educational activities, which are mandatory.
The letter determines the number of hours of extracurricular activities in the following volume:
- up to 1350 hours at the level of primary general education;
- up to 1750 hours at the level of basic general education;
- up to 700 hours at the level of secondary general education.
- An educational organization independently determines the volume of hours allocated to extracurricular activities in accordance with the content and organizational specifics of its main educational program, implementing the specified volume of hours both during school hours and during vacations.
- The student has the right to choose from the directions and forms of extracurricular activities proposed by the general education organization in accordance with the number of hours established by the educational organization in terms of extracurricular activities.
- Features of the organization of the educational process, which should reduce the burden on children during the educational process:
- For 1st grade students, the most difficult subjects should be taught in the 2nd lesson; 2-4th grades - 2-3rd lessons; for students in grades 5-11 in lessons 2-4.
- In primary grades, double lessons are not conducted. It is allowed to conduct double physical education lessons (skiing lessons, swimming lessons).
- There should not be more than one test during the school day. Tests are recommended to be carried out in 2-4 lessons.
Often, parents enroll their child in many additional clubs and sections, without taking into account the age and capabilities of the child.
As a result, one can often observe how a child has difficulty coping with the academic load, comes to school in the morning already tired, and the level of academic performance decreases.
In this case, it is worthwhile to correctly prioritize and leave only the most necessary activities in the child’s schedule and schedule.

New changes to SANPIN
Now there can be more than 25 students in a class!
Changes to the famous school Sanitary Regulations have been signed [infographics]
Five years ago (and also just before the New Year), the country’s glorious chief sanitary doctor, Gennady Onishchenko, approved the next “Sanitary and Epidemiological Requirements for the Conditions and Organization of Education in General Educational Institutions” (aka SanPiN 2.4.2.2821-10).
All the principals of Russian schools practically memorized this thirty-eight-page document in anticipation of Rospotrebnadzor inspectors. Because these standards even stipulate the number of urinals per number of students and the colors in which the corridor next to the wardrobe should be painted.
And a cunning inspector, having these same Sanitary Regulations in his hands, can always fine the director.
And yet, the most important provision of SanPiN was paragraph 10.1, requiring that “class occupancy” should not exceed 25 people.
In combination with normative per capita financing, when a school is paid for each person studying in it, this norm turned out to be the most impossible to implement. The director is interested in taking on as many students as possible.
But there are usually not many places. In fact, there are classes where 30 children study, or even 35. And what should we do?
And now changes have been made to these same sanitary norms and rules. There are technical adjustments, for example, they decided to replace the words “educational process” with the words “educational activity.” But there are provisions that are important for teachers and parents. Here we will tell you about them.
Not twenty-five anymore
That same paragraph about 25 students and not a single head more is now formulated differently: “The number of students in a class is determined based on the calculation of compliance with the standard area per student, compliance with the requirements for the arrangement of furniture in classrooms, including the distance of study areas from light-carrying wall, requirements for natural and artificial lighting.” That is - hurray! — the famous norm has disappeared. On the other hand, what is stopping the director from now filling a class with 40 students? How can a teacher cope with such a crowd?
- Don't load!
- Another important change concerns the “maximum permissible weekly classroom load” (i.e. lessons).
- If previously once a week in the first grade it was allowed to conduct the fifth lesson - physical education, and in the 2nd - 4th grades the sixth lesson (again, physical education), now sports for children have been made mandatory. The teaching load, according to SanPiN, should not exceed:
- for 1st grade students - 4 lessons and once a week 5 lessons at the expense of a physical education lesson;
- for students in grades 2 - 4 - 5 lessons and once a week 6 lessons at the expense of a physical education lesson;
- for students in grades 5 - 7 - no more than 7 lessons;
- for students in grades 8 - 11 - no more than 8 lessons.
- It is allowed to conduct double physical education lessons (skiing lessons, swimming lessons).
- The duration of lessons for first-graders has also decreased. Here's what the document says:
- “Training in 1st grade is carried out in compliance with the following additional requirements:
- — training sessions are conducted over a 5-day school week and only during the first shift;
- use of a “stepped” teaching mode in the first half of the year (in September, October - 3 lessons per day, 35 minutes each, in November-December - 4 lessons per day, 35 minutes each; January - May - 4 lessons per day 40 minutes each (previously it was 45 minutes - Author);
— it is recommended to organize a dynamic break lasting at least 40 minutes in the middle of the school day;
— training is carried out without scoring students’ classes and homework;
— additional week-long holidays in the middle of the third quarter in the traditional mode of education. It is possible to organize additional holidays regardless of quarters (trimesters).
Don't look at the electronic board (almost)
The norms for working at a computer have changed. The previous ones were developed back when there were monitors with cathode ray tubes in the classrooms. Sometimes, however, they can still be found in schools, but still, mostly now LCD screens. And they are less harmful to vision. Therefore now: “The duration of continuous use of a computer with an LCD monitor in the classroom is:
- for students of 1st - 2nd grades - no more than 20 minutes,
- for students in grades 3 - 4 - no more than 25 minutes,
- for students in grades 5 - 6 - no more than 30 minutes,
- for students in grades 7 - 11 - 35 minutes.
The continuous duration of students’ work directly with the interactive whiteboard during lessons in grades 1–4 should not exceed 5 minutes, in grades 5–11—10 minutes.
The total duration of using an interactive whiteboard in lessons in grades 1 - 2 is no more than 25 minutes, in grades 3 - 4 and older - no more than 30 minutes, subject to hygienically rational organization of the lesson (optimal change of activities, lesson density 60 - 80 %, physical education, ophthalmic training).”
- Previously, the standards were lower - first-graders could look at the screen for no more than 10 minutes.
- Doctors also require that children not use “more than two types of electronic learning tools in one lesson” - that is, a tablet and an interactive whiteboard, for example.
- Third physical education

The third lesson of physical education is separately enshrined in the standards. Moreover, in this wording: “To satisfy the biological need for movement, regardless of the age of students, it is recommended to conduct at least three physical education classes (in class and extracurricular forms) per week, provided for in the volume of the total weekly load.
It is not allowed to replace physical education classes with other subjects.”
10 hours of after school activities
Another important provision is the number of hours for extracurricular activities. It is now written into the educational standard. And schools are working hard, loading the children with project activities, excursions, competitions, and hikes.
— the maximum volume of such load has now been established.

Basic provisions of SanPiN for schools
Sanitary and epidemiological requirements for the conditions and organization of education in general education institutions (SanPiN 2.4.2.2821-10) came into force on September 1, 2011. These rules regulate all areas of school life and bring them into line with modern ideas about the health and safety of children from elementary school to high school students.
Despite this, the new SanPiN was harshly criticized by many experts. The main criticism was that the requirements did not correspond to the harsh realities of life. Most schools simply cannot organize compliance with some of the requirements of the document.
For example, not everywhere it is possible to equip bedrooms for after-school education for first-graders, and separate ones for boys and girls. Some teachers and psychologists expressed doubts about the correctness of the clause in the rules prohibiting the involvement of schoolchildren in cleaning premises.
It is known that children learn a lot by helping their elders and cleaning up where they themselves have littered.
However, no matter how you treat the new SanPiN, you will have to comply with it. True, schools were given a year to bring conditions to the required ones. But already now, parents should know the most important points in order to ensure their compliance, and therefore, to ensure their children, first of all, health.
If you notice a violation of the document requirements, feel free to complain to Rospotrebnadzor.
School grounds
The school yard must be fenced and have landscaping on at least 50% of the territory and be illuminated at night.
A sports and playground should be equipped in the yard, having all the equipment necessary to carry out the physical education program. When constructing new schools, it is necessary to design a recreation area on the territory. The playground must have a hard surface, and the football field must have grass.
It is prohibited to exercise on damp areas, as well as if they have holes and potholes.
The school grounds must be kept clean.
School building, premises and their equipment
In new and reconstructed school buildings, training should be provided for only one shift.
Transoms and vents must function at any time of the year. Broken glass must be replaced immediately.
It is recommended to equip showers and toilets in gyms - separately for boys and girls.
The chemistry room and laboratory are equipped with fume hoods. Mechanical exhaust ventilation is installed in workshops and service rooms where stoves are installed.
Labor training workshops and home economics classrooms, gyms must be equipped with first aid kits for first aid.
In primary classrooms, laboratory rooms, educational classrooms (chemistry, physics, drawing, biology), workshops, home economics classrooms, and in all medical premises, washbasins are installed, the height of which must correspond to the height and age characteristics of the students.
Student furniture must be made from materials that are harmless to the health of children and meet the height and age characteristics of children and ergonomic requirements. Stools or benches cannot be used instead of chairs.
A blackboard that does not have its own glow is equipped with local lighting.
The use of portable heating devices, as well as heaters with infrared radiation, is not allowed.
Toilets must have cubicles with doors. You also need cold and hot water, trash cans with a pedal lid, and a constant supply of soap, toilet paper and paper towels. It is recommended to provide personal hygiene rooms or cabins.
The air temperature in classrooms and offices, psychologist and speech therapist offices, laboratories, assembly hall, dining room, recreation, library, lobby, wardrobe should be 18 - 24 C; in the gym and rooms for sectional classes, workshops - 17 - 20 C; bedroom, playrooms, premises of preschool education departments and school boarding schools - 20 - 24 C; medical offices, changing rooms of the gym - 20 - 22 C, showers - 25 C.
All premises of the educational institution are subject to daily wet cleaning. If a general education institution operates in two shifts, cleaning is carried out at the end of each shift.
Toilets, dining rooms, lobbies, and recreation areas are subject to wet cleaning after each break. Sports equipment must be cleaned daily with detergents.
At least once a month, general cleaning is carried out in all types of premises. In this case, the labor of students cannot be involved.
Primary classes
In old buildings it is desirable, in new ones it is mandatory to have a separate entrance for the primary school, which should be located in a separate block. The first classes can be located no higher than the second floor, and classes from the second to the fourth cannot be higher than the third floor.
Children should be provided with desks with adjustable surface inclination. The size of the desks must correspond to the height of the students. See the table “Furniture dimensions and markings”.
Training in 1st grade is carried out in compliance with the following additional requirements:
- training sessions are conducted over a 5-day school week and only during the first shift;
- use of a “stepped” teaching mode in the first half of the year (in September, October - 3 lessons per day of 35 minutes each, in November - December - 4 lessons of 35 minutes each; January - May - 4 lessons of 45 minutes each) ;
- It is recommended to organize a dynamic break lasting at least 40 minutes in the middle of the school day;
- for those attending an extended day group, organization of daytime sleep (at least 1 hour), 3 meals a day and walks is necessary;
- training is carried out without scoring students’ knowledge and homework;
- additional week-long holidays in the middle of the third quarter in the traditional mode of education.
Senior classes
If the desks in the classroom are not height adjustable, then it is recommended that each classroom be assigned its own office, in which the furniture will be selected to suit the height of each student.
Day care center
For the first grades, bedrooms should be equipped, separate for girls and boys. Bunk beds cannot be installed in bedrooms.
Circle work in extended day groups should ensure a balance between motor-active and static activities.
Educational process
The optimal age for starting school is no earlier than 7 years. Admission of children in the 7th year of life is carried out when they reach the age of at least 6 years 6 months by September 1 of the school year.
- The class size, with the exception of compensatory training classes, should not exceed 25 people.
- Classes should begin no earlier than 8 o'clock.
- In institutions with in-depth study of individual subjects, lyceums and gymnasiums, training is carried out only in the first shift.
- In institutions operating in two shifts, training of 1st, 5th, final 9th and 11th grades and compensatory education classes should be organized in the first shift.
The weekly educational load should not exceed the standards - see table. The organization of specialized education in grades 10-11 should not lead to an increase in the educational load.
The maximum permissible load during the day should be:
- for 1st grade students no more than 4 lessons and 1 day per week - no more than 5 lessons due to a physical education lesson;
- for students in grades 2 - 4 - no more than 5 lessons and once a week 6 lessons due to a physical education lesson with a 6-day school week;
- for students in grades 5 - 6 - no more than 6 lessons;
- for students in grades 7 - 11 - no more than 7 lessons.
Optional classes should be scheduled on days with the fewest required classes.
When scheduling lessons, you should alternate subjects of varying difficulty throughout the day and week. Daily and weekly mental performance must also be taken into account. A lighter school day should be organized on Thursday or Friday.
There should not be more than one test during the school day.
In order to prevent fatigue, impaired posture and vision of students, physical education and eye exercises should be carried out during lessons.
The duration of continuous use of technical teaching aids in the educational process must comply with the standards - see table.
To satisfy the biological need for movement, regardless of the age of students, it is recommended to conduct at least 3 physical education lessons per week. It is not allowed to replace physical education lessons with other subjects.
Sports activities must correspond to the age, health and physical fitness of students, as well as weather conditions (if they are organized outdoors).
When organizing internships and socially useful work for students, provided for in the educational program, associated with heavy physical activity (carrying and moving heavy objects), it is necessary to be guided by sanitary and epidemiological requirements for the safety of working conditions for workers under 18 years of age. It is not allowed to involve students in work with harmful or dangerous working conditions, during which the use of labor is prohibited, by persons under 18 years of age, as well as in cleaning sanitary facilities and common areas, washing windows and lamps, removing snow from roofs and other similar work.
The amount of homework (in all subjects) should be such that the time required to complete it does not exceed (in astronomical hours): in grades 2 - 3 - 1.5 hours, in grades 4 - 5 - 2 hours, in grades 6 - 8th grade - 2.5 hours, 9th - 11th grade - up to 3.5 hours.
The weight of a daily set of textbooks and writing materials should not exceed: for students of 1st - 2nd grades - more than 1.5 kg, 3rd - 4th grades - more than 2 kg; 5 - 6th - more than 2.5 kg, 7 - 8th - more than 3.5 kg, 9 - 11th - more than 4.0 kg.
In order to prevent poor posture in students, it is recommended that primary school students have two sets of textbooks: one for use in lessons in a general education institution, the second for preparing homework.
Students
For children with hearing impairment, desks should be placed in the first row. It is recommended that children with visual impairments be seated on the desks closest to the blackboard. Children who often suffer from acute respiratory infections, sore throats, and colds should be seated further from the outer wall.
At least twice during the academic year, students sitting in the outer rows, rows 1 and 3 (with a three-row arrangement of desks), are swapped.
