We are often asked how age is calculated. The passenger's age for issuing an air ticket is determined on the date of departure for a one-way ticket and on the date of the first departure when purchasing a single round-trip ticket.

Subsidized air tickets for young people can be purchased if the passenger is under 22 years old on the date of departure of 364 days (365 in a leap year).

Subsidized air tickets for everyone

The regional air transportation subsidy program is aimed at ensuring the availability of direct flights between regions. For 2020, the Federal Air Transport Agency has announced as many as 262 subsidized routes!

Regional subsidized tariffs can be used by everyone without exceptions or restrictions . Tickets are available for purchase online both on airline websites and in search engines.

Government prices for regional flights are not the lowest, but are a cap on the maximum cost and ensure that the airline does not raise prices above the discounted fare. According to the terms of the subsidy, discounted tickets are available in the “full economy” class with baggage and meals.

Before purchasing a subsidized ticket, we strongly recommend checking prices in a search engine and comparing them with offers from other carriers. Often, on off-peak dates, you can buy regular tickets much cheaper without subsidies.

Subsidized air tickets for children

Another private issue is discounts on subsidized air tickets for children. Transportation of one child under 2 years of age is free of charge without providing the child with a separate seat.

Transportation of other children under 2 years of age accompanying the passenger, as well as children aged 2 to 12 years, is carried out at a discounted rate of at least 25 percent of the special fare with the provision of a separate seat.

It is unlikely that airlines will provide a discount of more than 25%, so you can count on a quarter discount for children under 12 years old.

The Russian government has developed a program providing discounts on air tickets for pensioners over 60 years of age. The conditions apply to residents of certain regions of the Russian Federation (today 33 constituent entities of the Russian Federation participate in the program) and those who have reached the established age (women - 55 years, men - 60 years).

Benefits for pensioners when purchasing air tickets

The program to support socially vulnerable segments of the population provides benefits for air travel. The project, as amended, was approved by Decree of the Government of the Russian Federation No. 215 of March 2, 2019. The goal is to increase the interest of retirees in flying. You can find out about promotions from representatives or on the company’s official website. For example, the carrier company "Nord Star" provides pensioners with a discount of up to 50%. During the May holidays, WWII veterans can attend completely free of charge. In addition, a veteran who takes advantage of this offer receives a certificate for another free flight.

Reducing the cost of purchasing tickets does not imply a change in tariff. The preferential category of citizens receives a full list of services and an appropriate level of service, but at a reduced cost.

3. Confirmation of membership in a preferential category (present a pensioner or disabled person’s ID).
4. At this stage the client can order tickets.

Returns and exchanges

For discounted air tickets, there are restrictions on the rules of return and exchange. If returned, the company will not refund all money paid. The client will receive only a small percentage of the cost, and the exchange may cost more than buying a new discount ticket.

Each air transport organization considers the terms of exchange and return individually.
